The United States Mint 2009 District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarters Proof Set contains six quarter-dollar coins, each struck in accordance with Public Law 110-161. These six quarter-dollar coins honor the District of Columbia and the five U.S. territories: the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Unlike circulating coins, each proof coin is struck at least twice with specially polished dies under very high pressure to produce sharp designs and a mirror-like finish. The official Arizona Coin and Die Set is now available! This set includes a completely defaced Arizona quarter die, one of the first production Arizona quarters struck with that die, and a Certificate of Authenticity numbered to match. To prevent unauthorized reproduction of U.S. coinage, the die's original striking surface image has been removed by the United States Mint to conform to security procedures governing circulating coin die disposition.
