Don't miss August 2001's Coin of the Month, the Old Spanish Trail 1535-1935 Commemorative Half-Dollar.  This coin honors the 400th anniversary of the overland trek known as the Cabeza de Vaca Expedition from Florida to El Paso, Texas in 1535.

The 50 State Quarters^® Program Lesson Plans are now available on the United States Mint H.I.P. Pocket Change^™ Web site for use in your classroom!  Take a look at the lessons created specifically to celebrate the Texas quarter:  Simple Symbols (K-1), Making Order Out of Borders (2-3), and Making Cents of Independence (4-6).  After that, check out the rest of these state specific plans that are FREE to download, and are available in sets designed specifically for grades K-1, 2-3, 4-6, and now grades 7-8 and 9-12!
