Presidential $1 Coin Lesson Plans (Cleveland 2nd term)
Students will learn about Grover Cleveland's accomplishments through his second Presidential $1 Coin.
Using available classroom and online resources, have the students research Cleveland's major accomplishments during his second term as president. Read the December Coin of the Month to learn more. Discuss the fact that Cleveland is the only president who served two non-consecutive terms.
Have the students use an organizer to record the accomplishments of Grover Cleveland's second term and the current events of the time. Invite the students to use their findings to write a newspaper article as if from that time period.
As an extension, have the students create Presidential flashcards illustrating unique accomplishments of various presidents ("only president who…," "first president who…")
