Practice coin identification and math in this game of coin dice. You can even make your own dice using a template.

Grades: 2nd and up

Materials: pencil, paper, dice or coin dice template (PDF)

Time: 20 minutes

Steps:

Find one or more friends to play with you. Share a single die or play with multiple dice so that each player has one die each. If you don’t have dice, print the coin dice template to make your own. The object of the game is to earn the most money after five rolls.

Play Using the Coin Dice Template

  1. Download and print the coin dice template.
  2. Cut out the die shape following the guide on the template. Then, glue or tape the sides together to form a cube.
  3. Use a piece of paper and a pencil to write down the scores.
  4. Players take turns rolling the die.
  5. Each time you roll, write down the amount of money you earned. For example, if you land on the side with a picture of a dime, you earned 10 cents.
  6. After everyone rolls five times, total each player’s earnings. The player with the most money wins!

Play Using Your Own Dice

  1. Each number on the die translates to a different coin. Look at the chart below to match the number you roll to a coin.

  2. Use a piece of paper and a pencil to write down the scores.
  3. Players take turn rolling the die.
  4. Each time you roll, write down the amount of money you earned. For example, if you land on a 2, look at the table and see that equals a dime. So you earned 10 cents.
