The Honorable Ventris C. Gibson, 40th Director of the United States Mint, Deputy Director Kristie McNally, and members of the Mint attended the American Numismatist Association 2024 World’s Fair of Money® August 6-10 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois. The show, in its 133rd year, attracts sovereign mints from around the world, hundreds of numismatic dealers, and collectors of all ages.

Director Gibson helped open the show by presenting short remarks and participating in the annual ribbon-cutting ceremony. In her remarks, Director Gibson gave a sneak peak about what attendees could see and do at the Mint booth while attending the show. She also mentioned that she would be available all week to meet customers and sign Certificates of Authenticity (COAs).

Back at the booth, the Mint debuted a video about the upcoming Flowing Hair Silver Medal (24YH) design with a special message from Director Gibson about listening and responding to our customers’ requests. The video also asked attendees to take the Mint’s DC Comic Survey online or at the Mint’s booth.

Once again, the Mint supported young numismatists by participating in Treasure Trivia and providing materials to young collectors about its coins and programs.

Additionally, attendees had the exclusive opportunity to participate in a drawing from August 7 to August 10. Five Director’s Raffle tickets were drawn each day, giving the ticket holder the ability to purchase one of 20, 2024 Liberty & Britannia Silver Medals (24YB) at a discounted price.

Furthermore, several products were released during the show:

  • American Eagle 2024 One Ounce Silver Proof Coin – S (24EM)
  • American Women Quarters™ Rolls and Bags – Celia Cruz (24WBG, 24WBH, 24WRG, and 24WRH)
  • Chester A. Arthur Presidential Silver Medal (S821)

The highlight of the week came on Thursday, August 8. Mint leadership attended Krause Publications Coin of the Year 41st Award Presentation Ceremony, where the Mint won the top award – Coin of the Year – and the Best Gold Coin award for its 2023 American Liberty High Relief 24-Karat Gold Coin.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to receive this prestigious award on behalf of the Mint,” said the Honorable Ventris C. Gibson, Director of the United States Mint. “I want to extend my congratulations and appreciation to the Mint’s artists and designers, and the Mint workforce, whose extraordinary works confirm that they are among the best at their craft.”

On the final day of the show, Director Gibson spoke with students and scouts during the ANA Young Collectors Corner Program. The Mint presented each attendee with a Coin and Discovery Kit and a bag filled with educational materials.
